A new report claims to have information and screenshots from the official iPhone app that Apple is creating for the upcoming Apple Watch. The information was reportedly revealed as part of the release of iOS 8.2 beta 4 to developers on Monday.
According to 9to5Mac, via unnamed sources, the app itself is currently called the Apple Watch Companion. It's supposed to let iPhone users set up the settings on the Apple Watch, such as its ablity to receive messages. The report claims:
Lacking a keyboard, the Apple Watch will allow users to respond to messages via voice. As Apple has previously detailed, users can respond via either transcribed dictation or actual audio messages. The app can switch between Dictation or Audio Replies as the default mechanism for replying to text messages. You can also choose to use either form of reply at the time of the individual message.
As far as managing any Apple Watch applications via the iPhone app, 9to5Mac says:
Users will be able to manage and organize applications on the Apple Watch Home Screen via a virtual view on the iPhone Companion application.
The report includes some screenshots of the alleged Apple Watch Companion app, which look very much like the settings sliders and menus on other iOS devices. The current rumor claims that Apple could start selling the Apple Watch sometime before the end of March.
I'm admittedly terrible at "choose your own adventure" stories. Flipping through them as a kid, I'd always peek at whatever page the story directed me to, read the first couple sentences, and if I liked where things were going, I'd stick with it. Turns out not much has changed in 20 years.
