One Way Android Fragmentation Isn't As Bad As You Think

One Way Android Fragmentation Isn't As Bad As You Think

Making apps for Android can seem kind of messy because of the big scary F-word: Fragmentation. It's part of why Tim Cook might call Android a "toxic hellstew" on stage. But the dirty little secret? It's really not that bad, at least when it comes to screen size.

Sultan of scalp: one doctor peels back the skin to find a better cure for baldness

Dr. Carlos Wesley cues up some Carole King on his laptop and positions a head squarely in front of him. It’s been thawing for 24 hours, ever since arriving by UPS from a cadaver lab in Arizona that sells bodies donated to science. It’s now tender and looks frostbitten, with hair buzzed to a gray stubble.

“This was a 59-year-old woman,” says Dr. Wesley, looking down at the head. “I don’t know what the cause of death was, it should say somewhere on the box.” That box is only big enough to...

Barcelona Go!

How to check movie ratings with Siri

One of the first things a lot of us do before heading to the movies is check out the ratings for the film we are interested in. Let's face it, movie theaters nowadays are anything but cheap and even though ratings can't always be the deciding factor, terrible ratings could indicate it'd be better to check it out once it hits Netflix or becomes available for rent on iTunes. Luckily, Siri can help you check movie ratings in just a few seconds with the help of Rotten Tomatoes.

How to look up movie ratings with Siri for iPhone and iPad

  1. Press and hold the Home button on your iPhone or iPad to activate Siri.

  2. Say something like "Show me ratings for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire."

  3. Siri should automatically present you with Rotten Tomatoes ratings for the selected movie.

  4. Alternately, if you're already viewing information on a specific movie, you can tap on the ratings section from the general movie info card.

Apple granted permission to construct another solar power farm in Claremont

Yesterday it was announced the council of Claremont has entered into a development agreement with Apple, which will see the tech giant build a 100-acre, $55 million power plant, producing 17.5 megawatt of electricity for the company with minimal environmental impact.

Apple aims to have a grading permit submitted for the land by the end of the year, expecting to complete the project within five years of the commencement date, that's if everything goes to plan. The company has invested heavily in renewable energy sources for not only its data centers, but other properties too, including the new campus currently under construction in Cupertino. This new solar farm will join two other installations in the vicinity.

With further infrastructure developments in place, it's unknown as to whether or not Apple will expand the data center itself. Apple will also source 75 new jobs locally, if possible, during construction.
