Como todos los 31 de marzo, hoy es el Día internacional de las copias de seguridad . Además de que hagas un backup completo de todos tus datos ya mismo para celebrarlo, hay algunos consejos e ideas al respecto en World Backup Day.


Y recuerda que hoy en día no solo basta con hacer una copia de seguridad del ordenador: sufrir un problema o robo con el teléfono móvil puede ser tanto o más traumático, así que… otra copia al canto.

Ciudades por la noche desde la Estación Espacial Internacional


Por lo visto existen unas 400 ciudades en el mundo con una población igual o superior a un millón de habitantes. En High-Res Images of Cities at Night (from ISS) ven unas cuantas de ellas fotografiadas por la noche desde la Estacipn Espacial Internacional, lo que no es nada fácil teniendo en cuenta el tiempo de exposición necesario y que la ISS se mueve a unos 28.000 kilómetros por hora.


De hecho Don Pettit se montó en su momento un soporte especial para poder seguir las ciudades sin que temblara la cámara y poder hacer este tipo de fotos.


El montaje y la música son de Steven Reilly, las imágenes están disponibles para cualquiera que las quiera usar en el apartado Cities Collection de The Gateway to Astronaut Photography of Earth.


Y llamadme friki, pero… ¿Soy el único al que Moscú le recuerda al Halcón Milenario?

Mars Gigapixel Panorama - Curiosity rover: Martian solar days 136-149 en Out of this World


Por si a alguien no le parecen suficientes las imágenes que envía Curiosity y que están disponibles prácticamente en tiempo real Andrew Bodrov ha montado este espectacular panorama con 295 imágenes de la Narrow Angle Cámera y 112 de la Medium Angle Cámera del rover


Estas cámaras van montadas en la «cabeza» de Curiosity.

La NAC es el rectángulo gris de la izquierda, a MAC es el de la derecha - NASA


La NAC tiene un objetivo de 100 milímetros, la MAC uno de 34 milímetros, lo que les da un campo de visión de 5,1 y 15 grados respectivamente.


Sus sensores son de 1.600×1.200 pixeles y con os objetivos que montan pueden resolver 7,4 centímetros por pixel y 22 centímetros por pixel en objetos situados a 1 kilómetro de distancia; cada una incorpora además 8 GB de memoria flash en la que pueden almacenar unas 5.500 imágenes comprimidas sin pérdida.


Malin Space Science Systems, que se encargó del diseño de las cámaras, tenía también una propuesta para montar cámaras con zoom en Curiosity, pero dado que no hubo tiempo de probarlas al final no se incluyeron en este.


Pero aún así as imágenes que nos envía con como para alucinar, y lo de poder recibirlas en el móvil es ya como de ciencia ficción.
